With the May19th release of Sony Pictures’ The Da Vinci Code swiftly approaching, here are some miscellaneous news items that may be of interest:

Variety announced that China – a country notorious for censorship – has approved the release of “The Da Vinci Code.” Pulling out all stops to promote the picture, Sony, according to the article, plans to distribute 350 prints of the film to China’s major cities. China’s strict censorship policy prohibits movies dealing with spiritual themes, though Beijing apparently has no problems green-lighting ones that trample on or misrepresent religious beliefs. Rembering When Hollywood Celebrated the Church

Older movie-goers still remember the long-past era in which Hollywood put the Church on a pedestal and treated believers with respect.

That period is known today as the Golden Age of Hollywood, so-called because it produced so many of the great classics of the American screen.
